A negotiation process between PHOs and GP2GP service provider Patients First has resulted in a favourable outcome for the primary care sector. Patients First will now charge practices $0.08 per enrolled patient per annum to support and coordinate the resolution of current service issues and any service enhancements. This new figure is instead of their original proposal to charge $2 per transaction to transfer patient records between practices to cover the same costs. This is great news for practices and the wider sector, and more than we originally anticipated. The newly-agreed terms will result in a significant reduction of costs across the sector, from an estimated $1.4 million to $350,000.
This was achieved through key stakeholders of the service, Patients First, the PHOs, Health Link and practice management systems vendors, coming together to agree the technical and compliance parameters and service levels do not require additional funding. The funding covers Patient First's stewardship of the underlying technical standards, oversight of the end-to-end service, and a minor portion going towards their technology.
Pinnacle practices will be invoiced twice-yearly for the GP2GP service - once in July for 50% of their annual amount, and again in December for the balance.
