Huntly West Medical Centre - Primary Health Care Ltd

We support just under 4,000 enrolled patients. We are a great big family, where everyone knows everyone. We have supported families through a number of generations. We are just a small jump over the Waikato River from State Highway One and are next door to a pharmacy and Pathlab.

Call us to make an appointment. Emergencies will always be given priority and our reception staff will attempt to contact you if there is any unforeseen delay or your GP has been called away. Longer consultation times are available, for a higher fee. Please ask the receptionists if you require extra time. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please let reception know as early as possible so the time can be allocated to someone else.

Management of your personal health information

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is our policy to maintain security of your medical record at all times and to ensure this information is only available to authorised members of the medical centre.

Your rights

In providing a quality health service, we comply with the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumer Rights. If you feel your rights have been breached, please let us know. You may add a comment to our suggestion box or make a compliant verbally or in writing. Should you feel unable to do this, you could get the support of an independent advocate from the Health and Disability Commissioners Office by calling 0800 112 233. We welcome any opportunity to improve our standard of service. Please talk to a medical centre staff member for more information about our complaints procedure.

Informed consent

When we need your permission for healthcare treatment or a procedure, we will talk with you about the risks, benefits and other options. You may give us your consent verbally or in writing, and we will include this in your medical record.

Some of our services include:
- minor surgery
- liquid nitrogen freezing therapy
- weight loss programme
- skin checks
- free sexual health for under 25 year olds
- home visits are available to enrolled patients whose condition prevents them from attending the medical centre. The visits are usually scheduled for after hours, and incur a higher fee.

If you wish to speak to your GP during opening hours, your call will be directed to the nurse who will assess the situation.

Our medical centre is committed to keeping you healthy. We may send you a reminder from time to time offering you health services appropriate to your care. If you do not wish to be notified of these, please let us know at reception.

Test results: you are welcome to call us and get the results of your test. You may be contacted following your test if there is any action or intervention required as a result, such as a prescription for medication, review with the GP, referral to a specialist, repeat test, etc.

Cervical smears: all women who have had a cervical smear should expect to hear about the result within two weeks. Please contact the medical centre if you have not heard from us after this time.
