Connecting primary care professionals with workforce development opportunities

Published: 30 July 2026

Investing in Our primary care workforce

The Te Manawa Taki | Midlands Workforce Hub has been established to support the development of our primary and community healthcare workforce by making training, education, and funding opportunities easier to find and access.

The Hub provides a central place for healthcare kaimahi to discover available programmes, apply for funding support, and stay connected with opportunities that strengthen workforce capability across the Te Manawa Taki region.

Current priority programmes include GP Planned Care Training and Cybersecurity Training.

EPCC Planned Care training funding for other regulated health professionals will be available shortly. Also on the way are initiatives for graduate nurses, PRIME training for rural clinicians, clinical health kaimahi in non-regulated positions and a workforce survey.

For general practitioners:

The GP Planned Care training fund is now open, with funded training opportunities in areas including skin lesion assessment and removal, women's health; aligned with Enhanced Primary and Community Care (EPCC) initiatives. Eligible GPs and GPEP doctors can submit an Expression of Interest through The Workforce Hub.

For Cyber Risk Leads and Practice Teams: Cybersecurity training is available to strengthen your practice's cyber resilience, helping teams better understand and manage cyber risks in an increasingly digital healthcare environment.
