FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES DIAL 111

What is a patient portal? Why have one?

A patient portal is a secure website which stores your health information and lets you save time and take care of your health needs online.

With a patient portal you can:

  • access your health information- 24 hours, 7 days a week anywhere in the world
  • view your lab results, immunisation records and allergies
  • see your medications and request repeat prescriptions
  • update your personal details, including weight, height and blood pressure
  • manage your health goals and track your progress
  • receive recall and appointment reminders
  • share your health information with other healthcare providers if you choose to
  • book appointments with your doctor or nurse
  • send secure electronic messages to your doctor
  • view your medical records.

Please note: Some of the services may not be available at your practice. Some online services may also incur a fee.

We recommend all patients sign up for a patient portal, even if you do not see your GP very often. You never know when an emergency may happen and access to your basic medical information such as your blood type and allergies could be critical. An online patient portal helps to give piece of mind.

Get started

The registration process is simple, but needs to be done at your practice. It’s important your practice verifies your identity and only gives access to your health record to you! The practice will provide you with an activation code and instructions on how to complete your registration online.

  • You will need to provide a personal email address and proof of identity.
  • You must be 16 years old or over to sign up.

Talk to a member of your general practice team to get more information about any costs involved to register.

Safe and secure

Patients portals are hosted in a secure environment. Similar to internet banking, your records are protected by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to ensure your information is completely safe and secure.

We rely on you to keep your password a secret and to take all reasonable measures to protect your information.
