Waikato general practice EOI: Immunisation practice extension service enablement fund

Offering childhood immunisation services outside of regular business hours could significantly improve access to timely immunisations for working families and others.

The purpose of this funding is to establish a regular after-hours immunisation service, for childhood immunisations, in the evening (e.g. 5-7pm) or at weekends. This service will aim to cater to whānau who cannot attend during regular business hours for various reasons.

Practices can apply to access this fund to support the provision of a nurse-led immunisation service that targets due and overdue childhood immunisations outside of usual practice hours. In cases where staffing is limited, the option of providing a nurse immuniser to the practice to support delivery of this service may be available.*

*Provision of a nurse vaccinator to the practice is limited due to widespread geographical location of Waikato practices. This can be further discussed upon expression of interest (EOI).

This is a small, limited fund. EOIs will be vetted based on the practices’ ability to meet and demonstrate the following criteria.

• Be willing to use this funding to provide a regular after-hours service for a limited time to provide childhood immunisations.
• Be willing to vaccinate both enrolled and casual patients who are due or overdue childhood immunisations.
• Advertise as a booked and/or drop-in service to attract greater uptake
• Be able to provide targeted communication to whanau to offer access to this extended service.
• Be able to submit a simple report on the uptake and usage of the fund.
