Supporting registered nurses undertaking nurse practitioner practicum year
The national Mātanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS) supports registered nurses undertaking their nurse practitioner practicum year.
The practicum is normally completed as the final stage of a Nursing Council-approved Master of Nursing pathway. The scheme supports coordination between prospective nurse practitioners, employers, clinical supervisors, tertiary education providers and the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
From 2025, the scheme has been delivered through a collaborative model involving six primary health organisations: Pinnacle, Mahitahi Hauora, Pegasus Health, ProCare, Tū Ora Compass Health and WellSouth.
The model is designed to provide nationally coordinated and regionally responsive support for candidates through the practicum year and their transition into nurse practitioner practice.
