Legislation is currently being amended to allow prescribers to in certain circumstances prescribe 12-months of medication. Prescribers will be responsible for determining the clinically appropriate prescription length and can prescribe for shorter periods or longer periods of time. It is expected the legislation and IT systems (such as PMS and pharmacy systems) are coming into effect on 1 February 2026.
Tui Ora’s outreach immunisation service (OIS) supports 29 general practices across Taranaki by reaching out to whānau and tamariki who face barriers to accessing scheduled immunisations. Pinnacle is supporting the programme for around two years to help lift childhood immunisation rates.
Pinnacle provides a free service for member practices, representing contracted providers in PSAAP negotiations.

This year, a new six-week immunisation performance-based funding measure has been introduced as part of the 2025/2026 primary care immunisation performance measures for Pinnacle practices. Since the announcement, we’ve been working with Te Whatu Ora to validate data and ensure practices will have clear visibility of their performance and funding received.
Ko te Hikuwai o Te Tihi Ora, The Pinnacle Foundation, is a charitable trust that reinvests surplus income from Pinnacle’s profit-for-purpose entities into primary care across Te Manawa Taki, supporting access, workforce and innovation.

The practice system support service is the first Pinnacle point of contact for the network, serving as subject matter experts in various general practice business processes, and supporting practices with new initiatives.

The practice management toolkit has been developed in response to the Pinnacle Workforce Survey findings from the reception and administration feedback. Some respondents found the health systems difficult to navigate, funding hard to understand and the business of general practices overwhelming. The practice management toolkit provides tools and information to support practice managers, business managers and others involved with the management of general practice.
